As you welcome loved ones into your home tonight, take a moment to make sure everyone stays safe:

🔔 Test smoke alarms so all guests can hear them — especially if they’re sleeping in unfamiliar rooms.
🕯️ Keep candles and warmers up high and out of reach of kids and pets.
🎄 Keep your Christmas tree hydrated and away from heat sources with gifts not crowding it.
🚫 Ensure hallways, stairs, and exits are clear of luggage, toys, and gift bags.
🔌 Turn off Christmas lights, space heaters, and decorations before going to bed.

As the temperatures drop, many of us are turning to space heaters and fireplaces to stay warm. Keep your home and family safe with these quick tips:

🔥 Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn.
🔥 Always turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
🔥 Have your fireplace and chimney cleaned and inspected before using.
🔥 Plug space heaters directly into the wall — never into extension cords.

Fire departments paint fire hydrants certain colors for the same reason Bob Ross chose specific colors for his paintings: to communicate something clearly, quickly, and beautifully—without saying a word.

🎨 Fire Hydrants as Functional Art
Just as Bob Ross used color to evoke feeling and tell a story (like a "happy little tree" or a "mighty mountain"), fire departments use hydrant colors to tell the story of water flow and readiness:

Each color, like a brushstroke on a canvas, tells firefighters how aggressive they can be in battling a blaze. Just like Ross adjusted his palette to suit the emotion of his painting, hydrant colors are chosen to suit the urgency and functionality of the hydrant.

🎨 A Shared Philosophy
Clarity: Bob Ross painted clear, soothing landscapes. Fire departments paint clear, intuitive signals.
Speed: Bob painted quickly but intentionally. Firefighters need to act fast, and color helps them do it.
Purpose: Every color on a Ross canvas had a purpose—just like every hydrant color has a meaning.

Memorial Day is the traditional start of summer and grilling season. Please share these grilling safety tips to keep your community fire safe: 🍔 Place your grill well away from siding and deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. 🌭 Keep a 3-foot safe zone around your grill. This will keep kids and pets safe. 🍗 Open your gas grill before lighting. 🍤 Keep an eye on your grill. Don’t walk away from it when it is lit. 🍢 Clean your grill after each use. This will remove grease that can start a fire. 🍖 Place the coals from your grill in a metal can with a lid once they have cooled.
